Who this treatment is for
Many of our patients are post-natal — concerned about laxity following childbirth, mild stress incontinence (small leaks when coughing, laughing or exercising), or simply a sense of altered comfort. Others are peri-menopausal and noticing dryness or laxity. A frank, judgement-free consultation determines whether this is the right treatment for you.
What to expect
Treatment takes around thirty minutes. We use a HIFU device with an internal probe, applying energy along defined treatment lines. Most patients describe brief sensations of warmth rather than pain. We measure vaginal pressure before treatment and again three months afterwards to assess muscle response. There is no general anaesthetic and no recovery requirement beyond avoiding intercourse and swimming for two weeks.
What it can and cannot do
HIFU works on tissue laxity and mild to moderate stress incontinence. It is not a treatment for severe urinary incontinence or structural complications, which may require pelvic floor physiotherapy, urogynaecology input or surgical referral. A medically supervised assessment ensures the right intervention is recommended.
Common questions about HIFU Vaginal Rejuvenation
Q.Is the consultation embarrassing?
A.The first step is a free phone consultation so we can answer questions and confirm whether treatment is suitable. If treatment is agreed, your in-clinic appointment is handled calmly, privately and confidentially.
Q.How long do results last?
A.Most patients experience improvement for twelve to eighteen months following a single session. In Alula's experience, around 85% of suitable patients need one session rather than a course. Some opt for a single annual maintenance session. The timing of any maintenance is determined by your response — there is no fixed protocol that applies to every patient.
Q.Will it help with stress incontinence?
A.Many patients with mild to moderate stress incontinence — small leaks with coughing, laughing or exercise — experience meaningful improvement. It is not a treatment for severe urinary incontinence, where pelvic floor physiotherapy or surgical referral may be more appropriate. We assess and refer when needed.
Q.What is the recovery?
A.Most patients return to normal activities the same day. We advise avoiding intercourse, swimming, sauna and tampons for two weeks to allow the treated tissue to recover. Some patients notice mild discharge or sensitivity in the first few days; both resolve without intervention.
Q.Who is eligible for treatment?
A.Treatment is not carried out if you are bleeding on the day, have an active infection, have not had a normal cervical smear within the last five years, or are wearing a copper coil. A Mirena coil is usually acceptable, but we confirm suitability at consultation.
