A non-surgical alternative to a facelift
HIFU — High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound — delivers focused energy into the deep dermis and SMAS layer. Unlike surface energy treatments, HIFU bypasses the epidermis entirely to stimulate new collagen production at the structural level. The result is progressive lifting and firming of the face, neck, brow and body areas over the following three to six months.
Non-surgical, no downtime
Walk-in walk-out; no incisions, no general anaesthetic.
Multiple zones treated
Face, neck, brow, jawline, abdomen, arms, knees and inner thighs.
Progressive results
Visible lift develops over 3–6 months as new collagen forms.
Long-lasting
Results typically last 12–18 months; annual maintenance is common.

Hale, Wilmslow and Chelsea
HIFU is a flagship treatment for our Hale, Wilmslow and Chelsea patients in their forties, fifties and sixties — particularly for jawline and neck definition. We commonly schedule a winter HIFU session ahead of spring, allowing the three-to-six-month maturation period to deliver visible results in time for warmer weather.

How HIFU is different
Most non-surgical tightening treatments work at the surface or upper dermis. HIFU's focused ultrasound bypasses the surface to deliver energy at three calibrated depths — 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm — including the SMAS layer that is targeted in surgical facelifts. The result is a structural tightening response rather than a topical one.
Treatment session
After photography and consent, we apply ultrasound gel and pass the HIFU transducer across the treatment area in a controlled grid pattern. Most patients experience brief, manageable sensations of heat or pinpoint discomfort in deeper zones. A full-face-and-neck session takes around sixty to ninety minutes. There is no aftercare beyond mineral SPF for a few days.
Realistic timelines
HIFU is a slow-burn treatment. Some patients notice mild immediate firming, but the substantive results develop progressively over three to six months as new collagen forms. We photograph patients at baseline, three months and six months. Most patients have a single session annually; some prefer a half-session top-up at six months.
Common questions about HIFU Skin Tightening
Q.Is HIFU painful?
A.Sensation varies between patients and across treatment depths. Most patients describe brief moments of warmth or pinpoint discomfort, particularly along the jawline. We pace the treatment, pause whenever you need, and can use mild oral analgesia if you prefer. The vast majority of patients tolerate full-face-and-neck sessions comfortably.
Q.When will I see results?
A.A small proportion of patients notice slight tightening within the first few weeks. The substantive change develops between three and six months as new collagen forms. We compare standardised photographs at consultation, three months and six months, and discuss whether a maintenance session would be helpful at twelve months.
Q.How does HIFU compare to a surgical facelift?
A.It does not replace surgery for substantial laxity. HIFU produces measurable, real lifting in the right candidate but its effect is more modest and progressive than a surgical facelift. We will tell you honestly during consultation whether HIFU is the right intervention or whether we would recommend referral.
Q.Are there side effects?
A.Side effects are usually mild — short-lived redness, mild swelling, occasional small bruising along the jawline. Rare side effects include temporary numbness or muscle weakness in a small zone, which usually resolves within weeks. Doctor-led screening reduces the chance of unsuitable patients being treated.
