    Course content

Morning: anatomy of the upper-limb venous system, equipment selection, patient assessment, consent, sharps safety, infection control. Late morning: practical on phantoms — venepuncture and cannulation. Afternoon: supervised live-patient practice — both venepuncture and cannulation, multiple rotations.

    Difficult cases

We dedicate a structured session to difficult cases: dehydrated patients, fragile veins, anxious patients, obesity, oedema. Practical strategies — warming, positioning, tourniquet technique, ultrasound assistance where appropriate. Knowing when to ask a colleague for help is also covered.

    Documentation and protocols

Documentation, consent forms, refusal documentation, post-procedure care advice and adverse event reporting are covered as practical templates you can use in your own clinic. We share the protocols and forms we use in our own practice as a starting point.

    Frequently Asked

Common questions about Phlebotomy & Cannulation

Q.Is this course required for PRP and IV vitamin training?

A.Most attendees come having already done some phlebotomy through their main role, but for those without recent practice this is a strong prerequisite for PRP, IV vitamin therapy and similar advanced protocols. If in doubt, we are happy to advise.

Q.Will I really practise on real patients?

A.Yes — supervised live-patient practice is integral. We start on phantoms in the morning to build technique and confidence, then move to supervised live-patient rotations in the afternoon. Every attendee completes multiple successful venepunctures and cannulations during the day.

    Q.What about sharps incidents?

A.Prevention, post-incident reporting and the relevant occupational health pathways are covered explicitly. We also discuss the human side — what to do in the moment, who to contact — to make a stressful situation more manageable if it happens.

Q.Is the course suitable for nurses already practising?

A.Yes. Many of our attendees are experienced nurses wanting a refresher specifically tailored to aesthetic practice settings. The course has more depth on the aesthetic-clinic-specific aspects than a generic NHS phlebotomy refresher.
