Course content
Morning: physiology and pharmacology of common IV agents, evidence base and limitations, patient screening, consent, equipment, sharps safety. Late morning: practical setup — drawing up infusions, line setup, monitoring. Afternoon: supervised live-patient infusions including monitoring and reaction protocols.
Honest framing
IV nutrition therapy is heavily marketed and the evidence base is variable. We cover the indications where IV is genuinely better than oral, the indications where it makes little measurable difference, and the few situations where IV is contraindicated. Honest patient framing is part of responsible practice and we model it during the course.
Reaction management
Anaphylaxis, vasovagal events, infusion-site reactions, electrolyte disturbances. Recognition, immediate management, escalation and documentation. We run case-based discussions of real-world scenarios and review the equipment and medications you should hold on site.
Common questions about IV Vitamin & Nutritional Course
Q.Is the evidence for IV vitamins strong?
A.Variable, depending on the indication. We cover the evidence honestly — what is well established, what is plausible, what is poorly supported. Patients should be told this clearly. We do not endorse over-marketed wellness claims and our course reflects that.
Q.Do I need to be confident with cannulation?
A.Yes — solid cannulation technique is a prerequisite. If your cannulation is rusty, our Phlebotomy & Cannulation course is a sensible prerequisite. We will tell you honestly at enquiry whether to do that course first.
Q.What protocols will I learn?
A.Myer's cocktail, glutathione, high-dose vitamin C, B-complex protocols, electrolyte and hydration regimens. We share our own clinic's protocols and discuss the regulatory considerations of compounding versus pre-mixed products in the UK.
Q.Will I see live infusions during the course?
A.Yes — supervised live-patient infusions are core to the day. You will set up, run and monitor infusions under one-to-one supervision. This is not a theory-only course.
